Sweet, Savory, and Spicy Gochujang Honey Garlic Chicken

Honey Garlic Chicken: Made The Midamar Way

Fresh and flavorful chicken doesn’t have to mean complicated recipes and complex cooking, sometimes it’s as easy as this Honey Garlic Chicken Recipe! But we had to make it our own way, so we spiced it up, literally, with a healthy dose of gochujang chili sauce for a baked chicken recipe that’s the perfect mix of sweet and spicy! We love a one-pan recipe, and I think this is our best one yet, so read on for a dinner recipe that brings the flavor and stays deliciously convenient.

Simple Seasoning for Fresh Flavors

This is a great recipe for a fresh and flavorful take on a classic chicken and broccoli recipe. They both get baked together for convenience and only need a few seasonings to bring out the best of their flavors. With a few simple additions like olive oil, classic salt and pepper, and garlic powder, you can keep the fresh and natural flavors with a few tasty and savory additions on top.

The broccoli and chicken can cook together on a single baking sheet, saving you dishes in the long run and saves time in the short run. When layered out over the pan, it all cooks quickly and conveniently, and while it cooks it’s the perfect opportunity to whip up the spicy honey garlic sauce!

As the name implies, the sauce is a great mix of savory and sweet from the honey, garlic, sesame oil, and soy sauce but we wanted to go a step further. Adding spice to this adds a whole new dimension of flavor that makes the final dish that much more enjoyable, and this sauce can be modified to match your taste. More or less honey or gochujang are simple tweaks you can make to suit what you’re looking for from this recipe. Ours was decently spicy but was cut well with a nice bit of sweetness.

The Finishing Touches

The broccoli will finish cooking before the chicken, so removing that from the pan and setting it aside will give you the space to toss your chicken in some of the sauce and bake it for another couple of minutes. The chicken should be cooked through by now, this is just to get the sauce baked into the chicken, really infusing each piece with that flavor you came here for.

And when these couple minutes are up, you’re done! The chicken and broccoli are both great to serve over some white rice and topped with some more sauce, sesame seeds, and green onion.

This recipe goes beyond other one pan chicken and veggie recipes you might be used to, this is a full-on meal with great Asian-inspired flavors that make for a tasty meal but keeps the convenience we love about one pan recipes. A little bit goes a long way and this recipe makes plenty to feed family or friends with something tasty, fresh, and healthy next time you’re in the mood for something easy. That’s it for this week, we hope you give this a try and check out some of our other great Halal recipes while you’re at it.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Halal chicken breast
  • 3 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 cups cooked white rice, for serving
  • Sesame seeds, for serving
  • Sliced green onion, for serving
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • ½ tbsp chili flakes
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ cup flour
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 6 cloves garlic, grated
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
  • ⅓ cup soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 4 tbsp gochujang

Directions

  1. Slice the chicken breast into bite size pieces and toss in a mixing bowl with the seasoning, mixing throughout until each piece is coated evenly. Toss the broccoli in it’s seasoning until evenly coated.
  2. Lay out the chicken and broccoli on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper, try not to overlap any pieces. Bake at 450 degrees for 15 minutes. If you’re serving this with rice, now’s a great time to start cooking that.
  3. While it bakes, mix together to sauce until smooth and set aside. When the chicken and broccoli are done baking, remove the broccoli from the pan and set aside. Leave the chicken on the pan and toss to coat in some of the sauce until each piece is coated. Bake for another 5 minutes, until the sauce is baked to the chicken.
  4. Remove the chicken from the oven and serve with the broccoli over the rice, topped with more sauce, sliced green onion, and sesame seeds.
