It seems like every country around the world has their own take on a stuffed cabbage roll recipe, and I think there’s something oddly beautiful that we universally seem to love fresh cabbage filled with a savory and meaty filling. Tasty though a cabbage roll may be, you’re not always in the mood for cooking, and simplicity makes a good recipe even better; these Cabbage Roll Bowls are the perfect way to enjoy the classic dish in a quick and easy one-pot package!
This is a great recipe when you come home after a busy day and need a quick and tasty meal. It’s just a few tasty ingredients that all cook in one pot, and it makes plenty for a hungry family and leaves enough for leftovers the next day.
A lot of cabbage roll recipes tend to use seasoned pork for the filling, but we of course used Halal ground beef from Midamar. We went with a combination of the 80% and 93% lean ground beef so we can have some of those fats for delicious flavor at the end, but without getting too greasy.
This all cooks in one pot, so when the beef is browned, toss in plenty of diced garlic. This is a big pot recipe, and we want that tasty garlic flavor mixed throughout. Then add the chopped cabbage and mix it all together until it starts to soften before adding the tomato sauce and giving everything a good mix.
This is a recipe you can remix a little bit with your favorite seasonings when you try it for yourself, and we encourage it! We went with classic salt and pepper, and this is a recipe that you can keep giving a taste throughout so you know when the seasoning is just right for you.
When everything is good and simmered together, the beef is cooked, the cabbage is softened with just a little crunch, you’re all set to dive in and serve this over some white rice for a quick and easy recipe that does it all. This is an amazing option for busy nights, it has all of the flavors you love with the savory beef and fresh cabbage in tangy tomato sauce, and it makes plenty to enjoy later. What’s not to love about this recipe?!
This one was a little loosey-goosey. When it comes to seasonings, it’s really just what tastes good to you. So when you make this yourself, what did you add to make it your own? We’d love to hear it, but most of all, we hope you enjoy this recipe or that you check out some of our other amazing Halal recipes. Enjoy!
