Get everything you love about a savory and fresh gyro, but in a quick and easy rice bowl with these Halal Gyro Bowls! It can be tricky to find authentically delicious gyros, but with Midamar’s Halal Gyro Slices, you can enjoy a mediterranean favorite with all of your favorite toppings from the comfort of your kitchen AND with a creamy tahini sauce.
There’s only a few steps to this whole recipe, you can fry up your gyros and onions in a pan while you cook your rice, so it all comes together at the same time. Speaking of rice, we made lemon dill basmati rice. I love a good rice bowl, and plain basmati rice would work just fine, but we wanted to add an extra punch of Mediterranean flavor in what is otherwise the most neutral part of the dish.
While the rice cooks you can mix up the tahini sauce, it’s only a few simple ingredients like tahini (obviously), lemon juice, and a few seasonings. Mix it together in a mixing bowl with some water to make a nice smooth sauce. You can adjust this to your taste as well as the water will neutralize some of those flavors, so give it a few taste tests and add more salt, lemon juice, or garlic powder as needed.
Then just pan fry some of Midamar’s Halal gyro strips; we cut ours into small pieces so it’s easier to mix throughout the bowl. These are so delicious and so convenient and are the perfect way to enjoy your favorite gyro.
Then we pan fried some sliced yellow onion in the drippings left in the pan and that’s it! Serve up your bowl with the rice, gyro, onion, maybe some diced cucumber, feta, and of course, tie it all together with the tahini sauce and you’re all set.
I love a rice bowl, getting all my favorite ingredients all mixed together in one simple dish is always satisfying, and these gyro bowls are awesome for just that! The rice is flavorful and filling, the veggies are fresh and delicious, the gyro is savory, tender, and full of great flavor, and the tahini sauce comes in to tie it all together making every bite delicious.
How do you like your gyro? Is there anything we missed that you always add? Let us know in the comments, and we’ll see you with another Halal recipe next week. Enjoy!
