Healthy and Halal Ground Beef Street Tacos

Time to add a little extra pizzazz to Taco Tuesday with these baked Halal Ground Beef Street Tacos! They’re the same classic taco we all know and love, this time with perfectly seasoned ground beef and melty cheese inside crispy baked tortillas. Serve it with the classic fixins’ like fresh tomato and a squirt of lime juice, and you’re all set to feed hungry friends and family in no time.

A delicious taco recipe doesn’t have to be hard; in fact, it’s supposed to be easy, and that’s what we love about this recipe. We combined Midamar’s 80% and 93% lean Halal ground beef with a diced yellow onion in a blend of tasty seasonings, including garlic and onion powders, cumin, and chili powder, to name a few. Letting all this simmer together will also make your house smell amazing, so if you aren’t hungry for tasty tacos yet, you will be.

When you start building your tacos, use corn tortillas and microwave them for a few seconds with a damp paper towel. This helps loosen the tortillas, making them more pliable for folding everything together. Without steaming, they’re likely to split open, and nobody wants a busted taco.

The tacos themselves are simple; we went with a scoop of beef and a sprinkling of shredded Mexican cheese blend for each before folding them together and lining them up on a couple of baking sheets. This recipe makes plenty of tacos, which everyone at the office appreciated, and we think your family will too. They’ll only bake for about 10 minutes, just enough time for the tortilla to get nice and crispy, so you get to enjoy these sooner.

When they’re done baking, you’re all set to get serving! These are great just on their own for a tasty lil beef taco snack, but I recommend topping them with at least a little bit of lime juice and a sprinkle of queso fresco. I knew I would love these tacos, but even then, these still surprised me. The beef is deliciously seasoned, so it’s great with just a little bit of cheese, but anything you like to add to your tacos will be a welcome addition.

There you have it, this week's recipe is pretty simple and quick. The simplicity makes these all the better, as they certainly bring the flavor and make plenty to share. Spread the love and share these with a fellow taco lover when you try them for yourself, and we’ll see you next time.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb 80% ground beef
  • 1 lb 93% ground beef
  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • 30 corn tortillas
  • Shredded Mexican blend cheese
  • 2 tomatoes, diced (for serving)
  • 5 limes, sliced (for serving)
  • Cotija cheese (for serving)
  • 1 ½ tsp Salt and Pepper, each
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp oregano
  • 1 ½ tbsp cumin
  • 2 tbsp chili powder

Directions

  1. Cook the onion and ground beef in a pan over medium heat until thoroughly browned. Then mix in the seasoning blend until incorporated and remove from heat.
  2. Lay out the tortillas on a plate, cover with a damp paper towel, and microwave for about 30 seconds. This will make the tortillas more flexible and prevent them from splitting.
  3. Lay out a tortilla, add a sprinkle of shredded cheese to the center with a scoop of the seasoned beef, and top with more cheese. Fold the tortilla over and press in closed. Lay out the tacos on a foil lined baking sheet until you’re out of tortillas or beef.
  4. Bake the tacos at 350 degrees for 10 minutes, until the tortillas is crispy. Then serve with the tomato, cotija, and fresh lime juice.
