A good goulash recipe is the perfect mix of tender beef, veggies, and noodles in a deliciously creamy and seasoned sauce. A GREAT goulash recipe, however, is all these things and comes with the added benefit of being incredibly easy to make for the perfect meal without the fuss. Nothing hits during the cold winter months quite like a slow-cooker recipe, so it’s the perfect time to toss something tasty in the pot and enjoy a hot and zesty Halal Beef Goulash for dinner.
Most of the time spent will be letting this cook on high for a few hours with little preparation needed. Chop up a few veggies, we went with the hearty classics of green pepper, onion, and carrots, and these can all get tossed into the slow cooker to wait while you get some beef browned.
Some opt for ground beef for a little bit of beefy goodness in every bite, but we went with Midamars Halal beef stew meat for big hearty chunks to go with the veggies. While the beef cooks is also a great time to toss together the seasoning blend. It’s a simple mix of some pretty potent flavors from the caraway seeds, tomato paste, and a healthy amount of paprika doing the heavy lifting.
This is a big pot of goulash, so we don’t want to lose any flavor by having an underpowered sauce, luckily these do their job spectacularly, even the paprika which can often be quite muted and used for adding a bit of flavor. You don’t want to waste any beefy flavor either, so when the beef is done, deglaze the pan with beef stock to absorb all that fond at the bottom, then whisk the seasoning in to make a lose seasoning paste. Once this sauce is tossed into the pot and everything gets a good mix, you’re all set to cook this on high for about 4 hours, or on low for about 8.
This is a great recipe to prepare the night before, get it going in the morning, and let it cook throughout the day so you can enjoy a hot and flavorful dinner. I’m a sucker for a smooth and creamy sauce with anything, so sour cream mixed in at the end of the cook makes the goulash so delectably creamy and adds a little bit more tanginess that is absolutely fantastic. Cook some egg noodles just before the goulash is ready to serve, drain ‘em, then mix everything together and you’re golden.
If you can’t tell yet, I was a big fan of this recipe, we wouldn’t put it out in the world for you to enjoy if we didn’t. It’s filled to the brim with flavor, everything is so incredibly tender, and like any good slow cooker recipe, it smells amazing the whole time it’s cooking. You’ll want to dive in early and enjoy, but if you can stop yourself and let everything come together, this is the perfect dinner that is all the more appreciated this time of year.
